Design A Waveとは、ロンドンに拠点を置くTom Hirstによる電子音楽ソロプロジェクト。これまではRush Hourの“no label”やHelmによるレーベルAlter、Alien Jamsよりリリースしてきた。そして今回のリリース“Dead Snake”は2014年にオランダのロッテルダムにあるKlangendum studioにある多くの古いアナログシンセサイザーを使って作られたものである。それらの機材を使うことにより、70年後期のシンセポップ、宇宙的音楽、インダストリアルの黎明期などのジャンルや機材自体の性質の再探求を行うことになり、そして結果的に耳から離れない、終末的なサウンドをもたらしたのだった。

Design A Wave is an electronic music project based in London. Occasionally collaborative, it is usually the home of musician Tom Hirst's solo recordings. Previous releases on Rush Hour distributions "no label", Helm's Alter imprint and Alien Jams should be indicative of the musical effects one should expect on listening. The recordings on this release were made during a residency at the Klangendum studio in Rotterdam, Netherlands in 2014 and make use of the extensive collection of older analogue synthesisers. The raw materials that were sufficient for the rise of synth pop, kosmische and industrial recordings in the late 70s and the genres themselves are here re-explored, the archaic nature of the instruments audible and adding to the haunting, apocalyptic effect.
